Mark group 93 - yoga retreat

1961 - 2010

We recently heard with sorrow of the death of Mark Moyses, who was the first teacher to come to Turkey and lead a group for us. His keenness to share everything he had learnt and experienced in full Okido Yoga dojo training in Laren, Holland, was what gave us courage to experiment with yoga holidays in Turkey. He was the catalyst that mixed with our own experience of Okido yoga residential training and set us going. Mark was a pioneer who liked to explore. When he saw the mountain in Gölköy he had to climb it and, not knowing the best path, he just went scrambling straight up. When he got to the top he realized that the one behind was the highest, so he had to climb that one too. He was something of a perfectionist with an all-or-nothing attitude and a sharp sense of humour which would have been greatly appreciated if he had found the right channel for his energies and temperament. After 2 sessions with us he stopped teaching yoga, which is a great shame since now the whole world is doing yoga. His knowledge and talent would have been a great asset. We missed him then and we miss him now.

                   Han Nya Shin Gyo.

('Han Nya Shin Gyo' is the Heart Sutra and its conclusion, as translated by Zen Master Thich Nhat Han is ‘Gone, gone, gone all the way over, everyone gone to the other shore, enlightenment, svaha!’  ‘Svaha’ he interprets as a cry, like ‘Welcome!’ or ‘Halleluja!’  Another Zen Master, Sheng-Yen, interprets it in the sense of 'completion' or 'perfection'.)
